Psychoanalysis

A new relational home alongside the one you already inhabit.

An intensive form of treatment that typically involves meeting several times a week.

Moshe Novakoff in thought

At its heart, the psychoanalytic project is about becoming less defended and more able to hold the multiplicity of being human: to make room for the different, sometimes contradictory parts of ourselves, while remaining open to the multiplicity of others. As a relationally oriented analyst, I seek to create an environment of genuine openness through an unscripted dialogue in which neither of us can know in advance exactly where the work will lead.

This requires a willingness to get lost — to move beyond the familiar explanations and fixed ideas we have about ourselves and others, and to allow something less certain to emerge. Psychoanalytic treatment is not only about helping what is hidden become visible; it can also mean rendering the visible less concrete, distilling our certainties into the vapors of complexity and nuance.

We have to be willing to challenge the reifications of our identities and the assuredness of what we think we know, and ultimately to have faith that, in getting lost within ourselves and with each other, we can find our way back.

Psychoanalysis offers us a unique opportunity to build a new relational home alongside the home we already inhabit. And when enough new insight and experience is gained, we can begin to build a bridge between the past of who we were and the future of who we hope to become.
